SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION

A cost-effective solution to ensure smooth, optimized performance of Sun-compatible, NT, and 50 Series systems

Proper, ongoing Systems Administration is absolutely critical to data protection, optimum system performance, and the prevention of costly hardware and software problems. For those companies who lack in-house resources, want to minimize costs, or prefer to keep IS staff focused on more strategic activities, dial-in Systems Administration from CV Services International offers a world of benefits.

DonÆt add the expense of hiring and training new help. When skilled systems experts simply arenÆt available, CV Services International can fill the void at a fraction of the cost. CV Services International Systems Administration can also free IS staff to concentrate on more pressing and productive tasks. CV Services International Systems Administration customers receive the same high-quality service and professional attention from the industryÆs top systems specialists.

High-level experts deliver optimized performance

Unlike most corporate environments, where systems administration responsibilities are assigned to less-experienced staff members, CV Services InternationalÆs Systems Administration is performed by highly-skilled Systems Analysts well-versed in all aspects of Sun SPARC«, NT« and 50 SeriesÖ systems. By applying their skills to routine analysis and critical tasks on a consistent and regular basis, CV Services International experts can improve system performance, prevent problems from occurring, and reduce down-time. CV Services International can also spare customers the task of working with third-party application software providers and other vendors to optimize application performance.

Comprehensive scheduled backups during no-load or low-load hours

Regularly-scheduled system backupsùat both the operating system and user data levelsùare essential for recovery from unexpected system shutdowns. Working with on-site personnel, CV Services International ensures that successful backups are given the priority they requireùreviewing existing backup procedures and, if necessary, recommending new procedures that may include a combination of full and incremental saves.

All CV Services International Systems Administration contracts begin with a complete and thorough dial-in backup of the operating system and designated user data files. From then on, CV Services InternationalÆs analysts perform preventive backups of all operating system and designated user files on a pre-determined schedule. To minimize disruptions to the customerÆs business, CV Services International performs all work during no-load or low-load hours whenever possible.

To ensure that each system backup has been initialized and terminated properly, CV Services International conducts regular backup reviews, which are documented and sent to the customer for record keeping purposes.

Restoring business function and managing disk space

In the event of an emergency, CV Services International responds promptly to keep business functioning smoothly. At the customersÆ request, CV Services International specialists work to locate the dates or titles of required backup tapes and ensure that specified files are restored to the proper directories. In addition, CV Services International ensures that access rights are correctly set to prevent unauthorized use of requested files.

CV Services International keeps a watchful eye on disk space, as well. Without proper disk space management, disks can fill to 100% capacityùpreventing the storage of new files and the modification of existing files. To avoid this situation, CV Services International cleans up extraneous log files (and others) on a monthly basis. When necessary or when requested, CV Services International specialists can also delete extraneous files.

Keeping user accounts up to date

Another important aspect of Systems Administration is user account maintenance. CV Services International acts just like a dedicated in-house administrator, creating and deleting user directories as requested, setting and removing appropriate access rights, and adding and deleting users to and from specified project categories. CV Services International also addresses all security issues concerning user access rights and privileges.

Problem prevention at the system level

Left unchecked, system errors can cause system outages. But if they are caught and remedied early enough, majorùand costlyùproblems can be prevented. Using Distributed Systems Management (DSM) for Prime 50 SeriesÖ systems and a variety of similar utilities for Sun SPARC« systems, CV Services International looks for and logs system errors, disk errors, memory errors, and records network-related issues that may need attention.

If, during the review of DSM or Sun utility logs, CV Services International determines that a hardware component is showing signs of imminent failure, a CV Services InternationalÆs specialist notifies the customers promptly. If there is a CV Services International Hardware/Operating System Service Contract in place, CV Services International initiates a service call on behalf of the customer.

Non-scheduled priority assistance

In the event of a crisis, CV Services InternationalÆs emergency ôHot Lineö (1-800-876-7378) connects the customer promptly and directly to a CV Services International Systems Administrator for the most rapid and complete response.

All emergency calls are handled on a ôTime and Materialsö basis, with a minimum two hour charge, unless there is a CV Hardware/Operating System contract in place. Any problem that cannot be immediately resolved is escalated to a Systems Analyst specializing in that platform. Should the final resolution require an on-site visit, it can be covered under an existing CV Hardware/Operating System contract, or on a ôTime and Materialsö basis.
